National South Africa Rental Terms for travel between 21-Nov-2014 and 31-Dec-2019
An initial, non-refundable deposit will be secured at the time of booking confirmation. Accepted credit cards are Visa and MasterCard (transaction fee of 1.95% applies).
The balance, along with any applicable vehicle security bond, will be secured directly by the supplier on arrival.
In the event of cancellation, the initial deposit paid remains non-refundable.
Additional Driver Policy
The maximum number of additional drivers permitted per rental is unlimited. Additional driver’s fee is ZAR 220.00 + tax per driver per rental. Rental conditions apply to all additional drivers.
Minimum rental age is 18 years for all car groups. There is no maximum rental age. Young drivers surcharge is ZAR 175.00 + tax per driver per day, for drivers between 18-23 years of age.
Condition of Vehicle
Vehicle must be returned, normal wear & tear expected, in the same condition as when rented. If special cleaning is required a separate charge will be made directly to the customer
Cross Border Policy
Prior authorization is required for customer’s wishing to cross the border. A fee of ZAR 697.00 + vat is levied for cars travelling into Botswana, Swaziland, Namibia and Lesotho and a fee of ZAR 1754.00 + vat applies for cross border rentals into Mozambique and Zambia. Cross border travel is not permitted for the PDAR-FDAR car groups into Mozambique and Zambia. Cross border travel is not permitted into Angola, Zimbabwe.
Advance notice is required for cross border travel and written authorization must be obtained from the rental location.
Driver/s must have obtained their license at least two years prior to renting a vehicle. An International Drivers Permit is mandatory for foreign customers. So for instance a customer from China with a Chinese driving license will also need to have an international driving license when they pick up the rental car.
One Way Rentals
Domestic one ways are charged at a maximum of ZAR 697.00 + tax (ZAR 795.00 inc Tax) except for the below:
One ways between George, Plettenburg Bay and Knysna = ZAR 175.00 + tax.
One ways between Sandton and Jo/Burg Tambo (and vice versa) = ZAR 105.00+ tax.
The charge will be confirmed at time of reservation. Some domestic one ways are free of charge. Please see separate one way grid for details. One ways are available for all cars and must be pre-booked.
International One ways are allowed as follows:
South Africa to Swaziland = ZAR 877.00 + tax.
South Africa to Botswana = ZAR 1316.00 + tax.
South Africa to Namibia = ZAR 4385.96 + tax.
South Africa to Lesotho = ZAR 877.00 + tax.
One way drop offs are not permitted into Mozambique or Zambia.
There is a minimum rental of 1 day required for all one ways (domestic and international).
Out of Hours Policy
All major credit cards are accepted. (American Express/Diners Club/Mastercard/Visa). Debit cards are not accepted. (Visa Delta/Switch). National vouchers are accepted. National chargecards are accepted. Travellers cheques are accepted. Eurocheques are accepted. Cash rentals are not accepted. A credit card is always required for deposits, and the deposit is held on the card until the vehicle is returned. The deposit required is the excess/deductible amount, plus 1,500 ZAR for any additional days not covered by a voucher and fuel costs.
The vehicle will be re-fuelled upon return. Any required fuel will be charged to the renters account.
Assistance phone number: 0861 118 898 to be called in the event of breakdown or accident. Full details will be provided to the customer upon arrival.
A replacement car will be provided if necessary.
Child infant seats (CSI) are available at a cost of ZAR 263.00 + tax per rental. Suitability is 0-12 months.
Child baby seats (CSB) are available at a cost of ZAR 263.00 + tax per rental. Suitability is 1-3 years.
Child toddler seats (CST) are available at a cost of ZAR 263.00 + tax per rental. Suitability is 4-7 years.
Navigation System - NVS - ZAR 69.30 + tax per day.
A spare tyre is available at a cost of ZAR 701.75 + tax per rental. There is a replacement amount of ZAR 1228.07 + tax.
Mobile phones are available and the request for a mobile phone can be sent with the reservation (add to remarks) & South Africa will make arrangements with Vodaphone. Mobile Phones cannot be loaded in the system. Details as follows:
- Phone & SIM Card: Daily Rental Rate: FREE, Theft Damage Protection (TDP): R 9.95 per day, Monthly Rental Rate: R249.00 per month – Including TDP
- SIM Card Only: Daily Rental Rate: R 6.95 per day, Monthly Rental Rate: R189.00 per month
- Call Rates: R2.40 per minute – Telkom (Landline) and Vodacom (082), R2.60 per minute – MTN (083) and Cell C (084), From R4.39 depending on the country being called, R7.90 per minute to the USA, UK, Germany, The Netherlands.
- SMS/TEXT Messaging Rates: R1.00 per SMS – Local, R2.00 per SMS – International.
- Excess: Excess from R500 (depending on what handset is rented) will be charged for lost, stolen or damaged handsets. Accessories are charged separately. SIM cards that are lost, stolen or damaged will cost R 150.00.
Please Note: Mobile Phone Rates are quoted and billed in South African Rands and exclude tax.
Baby seats and spare tyres are not loaded in the system. If the customer requires a baby seat or a spare tyre please add remarks on the reservation and request at the rental counter.
All special equipment is permitted for one way rentals in South Africa.
All special equipment is available on request, except for baby seats (CSB) which are available on request at Lanseria Airport, Newcastle and Umtaya Airport only and on freesale at all other locations in South Africa. GPS is also on freesale.
For all child seats, the age of the child/ren must be indicated at the time of booking.
All costs are excluding vat.
Airport surcharge – 11% + tax.
Contract fee – ZAR 48.25 + tax (applies to all rentals).
Tourism Levy – 1% + tax.
A claim handling fee of ZAR 526.00 + tax applies in the event of damage or loss (paid locally).
Traffic Fine Handling Fee – ZAR 192.98 + tax (paid locally if applicable).
Assessor Fee – ZAR 500.00 + tax (paid locally if applicable).
Vehicle Valet – ZAR 579.00 + tax (paid locally if applicable).
Insurances & Waivers:
CDW – Collision Damage Waiver
CDW reduces the customer’s responsibility in case of damage to the sum of the deductible.
If CDW is applied to the rental, the customer is still responsible for the mandatory excess charge in case of damage.
If CDW is not applied to the rental, the customer is responsible for the entire value of the damage/loss of the vehicle.

Theft Waiver waives the client’s financial responsibility for loss or theft to the vehicle to the sum of the deductible.

If THW is not applied, the customer is responsible for the entire value of the damage to or loss of the vehicle.

The rates on this website are often heavily discounted. This is due to our negotiated rates and bulk buying power. In such a case, if you book with us at a quoted rate that is incorrect, we will notify you of any price change and give you the option to proceed or cancel. We make every effort to keep information on our site up to date, but we cannot guarantee this website is free of errors or omissions and retain the right to update or change the information published at any time.
To the extent permitted by law we/the owners of this website will not be liable to you or to any third party (whether in contract, tort, or otherwise) for any direct, indirect or consequential loss or damage (including but not limited to any accident, injury, delay or loss of enjoyment) arising out of your reliance upon information contained on this website, including but not limited to your use (or inability to use) any products or services described or procured through this website.
When you pick up your vehicle, you will be required to sign a rental agreement with the supplier of the vehicle. Your rental and use of the vehicle will be governed by the terms of the rental agreement and any other documentation or information provided to you by the supplier at the time you pick up your vehicle. The rental agreement is between you and the supplier and we will not be liable to you or to any third party in relation to the terms of the supplier's rental agreement or any other documentation provided to you by the supplier at the time of pick up.
While we will make reasonable efforts to ensure we are representing only reputable suppliers, we make no warranty about the fitness or suitability of any third party (supplier) product or service and will not accept responsibility for the quality or fitness of any vehicle. We welcome feedback from our customers on their experience with our suppliers. We may, at our discretion, provide you with reasonable assistance in resolving any dispute you may have with a supplier.
Our total liability to you in relation to your use of this website and the information contained on this website will not exceed the dollar amount of the deposit we have received from you in relation to your booking/rental. Refunds will not be made for bookings cancelled due to inclement weather. Again, we strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance. Your use of this website is governed by the laws of New Zealand and the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.
To make a booking you must complete our booking form which is easy to follow and secured with the latest encryption technology. Once we receive your form, we will, subject to availability, confirm your booking by emailing you a confirmation voucher and invoice.
If you are booking via phone, please make sure you have read the terms and conditions of the vehicle you wish to rent first. Our reservations consultant will ask you if you have read the terms and agree to them before proceeding. The onus is always on the renter to ensure they make themselves fully aware of the terms displayed on our website.
In booking on this website you acknowledge that we disclose your information to your selected Supplier in order to provide the requested rental services.
Vehicle capacity and fitness to drive
Under no circumstances are you permitted to carry more passengers than the vehicle you rent is legally registered to carry, and if you do your insurance may be invalidated. The number of seatbelts (and passengers) is indicated next to each vehicle on this website. Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. A vehicle supplier can refuse to rent a vehicle to any person who is in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such circumstances we will have no further liability to you.
We are committed to providing a quality service and aim for complete customer satisfaction. In the event of cancellation, any refunds or penalties are detailed in the terms and conditions of your selected vehicle that you are asked to read and accept at time of booking. In the event you are unsatisfied with our service, please contact us within 48 hours of placing your booking or request and we will work to resolve any issues and determine if compensation is due. In the event you have completed your rental and are unhappy with your vehicle, we are happy to assist you in seeking compensation from the operator of the vehicle.
